Arrecife City Council is implementing new investments and improvements aimed at "strengthening the attention and public service" provided by the Local Police of the capital of Lanzarote in response to traffic infractions committed by residents or visitors.
Yonathan de León, directly responsible for the Local Police, has highlighted that the City Council is "increasing municipal investments to provide resources and support to the city's Local Police to cover the new needs of the vehicle fleet that travels daily through the capital, where the resident population is approaching 70,000 inhabitants. By population, Arrecife is the non-capital island capital of both Spanish archipelagos (Canary and Balearic Islands) with "more population".
The City Council, with the needs reports from the Local Police, has officially put out to tender "the vehicle depot management service." The announcement, published this Wednesday, states that interested companies or individuals "have until November 6, 2023, to submit their technical and economic proposals."
According to the specifications and announcement, the City Council is allocating "82,778.80 euros annually (plus taxes)" for the tender, which can reach an estimated contract value of "331,115.20 euros," adding the three possible annual extensions established in this competition.
In detail, the specifications state that "the purpose of this tender is the awarding of the vehicle depot management service for vehicles in the following situations:
- Infraction of the legislation on traffic and circulation of vehicles."
- Infraction of the legislation on the environment and/or noise pollution.
- Those vehicles that hinder the celebration of public events and the work of public or private services for public use (sports events, processions, parades, works...)
- Cases of force majeure, emergency, risk, or catastrophe.
- Accidented/broken down vehicles that prevent the free circulation of other vehicles or pose a serious risk to other road users
Along with this competition to provide resources and support to the Local Police, the Government group also launched the tender for the 'Service of cranes for the removal of vehicles by the Local Police' last August. Companies, both physical and legal, had until September 25 to submit their proposals. This last competition is currently under evaluation.
The mayor has announced that throughout this new term, "more resources and personnel" will be allocated to the Arrecife Local Police force to cover their many needs.
