Meeting of the Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the Councilor for Mobility, Mario González, with the taxi sector to seek measures to improve the service

The mayor of Arrecie, Yonathan de León, has assured that "the improvement of the taxi service in the capital of Lanzarote can already be noticed from this coming spring." The sector has stated that the update of the rates, which until now is among the lowest in Spain, "will allow taxi owners to have more drivers that will enable different shifts to be covered during the 24 hours, during the seven days of the week".

Yonathan de León announced this Tuesday that the Arrecife City Council has already sent the Regional Price Commission the detailed study for the update of these taxi service rates in the municipality of Arrecife. The mandatory public exhibition in the Official Gazette of Las Palmas has not received allegations. The City Council, through the Department of Mobility and Transport, led by Mario González Altube, approved in plenary session held on December 4 the study with the update of the rates. They were published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) on December 13, and once the mandatory period of public exposure was concluded, no allegations or claims have been registered.

The Arrecife City Council has sent this request - according to the procedure, to the Canary Islands Price Commission, a body attached to the Ministry of Commerce, so that its final approval and entry into force is determined.

Arrecife argues that the new rates will bring more drivers in taxis

In the different meetings that the mayor Yonathan de León, and the Councilor for Mobility and Transport, Mario González Altube, have held with the Taxi Cooperative, and all license holders, one of the reasons for the absence of fleet in the city is connected with the lack of interest of taxi employees until now in driving taxis in the capital of Lanzarote (a taxi car in addition to the owner can have different salaried drivers to cover all shifts), for rates that did not cover the real costs in the face of the high increases that have been registered for fuels, insurance, spare parts, etc.

The City Council argues that "the entry into force of this update of the rates will allow more presence of vehicles at the city's stops, especially in the neighborhoods, which will allow greater mobility to taxi users in the capital of Lanzarote".

The council, jointly with the taxi sector, is programming another series of measures that contribute "progressively to a better public transport service by taxi in the municipality of Arrecife".
