The Arrecife City Council is launching, this January, the construction works of the new rainwater network in the area around the Cuatro Esquinas area and the surroundings of the Charco de San Ginés, through Jacinto Borges Street.
The mayor of the city, and direct head of the Department of Public Works, Yonathan de León, has reported that "the company awarded these works is starting the work to install the new rainwater network, which the capital of Lanzarote suffers from, programmed in Lot 1, with an investment of 1.2 million euros. The works will focus on the area known as Cuatro Esquinas, and the entire Jacinto Borges street, in the El Lomo neighborhood."
Until now, this nucleus became a critical point in times of rain. Due to the city's elevation in the El Lomo area, hence its name, rainwater ran to the Cuatro Esquinas, at the same level as the sea on the banks of the Charco de San Ginés, causing flooding. The City Council has awarded the construction company Transportes y Excavaciones Tiagua this phase for an amount of 1,175,134.63 euros, including taxes.
Transformation of the urban image of the Cuatro Esquinas
Yonathan de León has detailed that, in a planned manner, the rainwater works are starting in this area of the city where the City Council has programmed other important works for this second part of the mandate to renovate the urban image of this enclave, with the modernizations of Pérez Galdós and León Castillo streets, whose tenders will be undertaken in this 2025. The Arrecife City Council already has the technical projects and financial records to undertake these modernization works in the city center.
Arrecife has had the Municipal Cooperation plans of the Cabildo de Lanzarote for the financing of the rainwater network works. These funds are managed by the Department of Public Works of the Cabildo, led by Vice President Jacobo Medina.
During these next months, the City Council "will promote the tender for new phases of the rainwater network, contemplated in lot 2 (Puerto de Naos area) and the Department of Public Works will tender other phases that cover different sectors of the capital," as detailed by Vice President Jacobo Medina.
Mayor Yonathan de León, and Vice President Jacobo Medina, have recently been in the Las Cuatros Esquinas area, where the rainwater works are being launched. The City Council requests the collaboration and understanding of residents, merchants and drivers during the execution of these works that will require the opening of ditches on public roads, and the diversion of traffic.
