The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Festivities of the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, has officially started the preparations for the 2026 Carnival.
During a meeting held this week with the carnival groups, in which the 2025 Carnival was assessed, Eugenio thanked "the involvement, effort and enthusiasm that each group contributes year after year to keep this festival alive, which is a hallmark of Arrecife", and announced that the deadline is now open for groups to submit their allegory proposals for the 2026 Carnival.
As in this year's edition, these ideas will later be submitted to a popular vote through the City Council's website, allowing citizens to choose the theme. The deadline for submitting proposals will be open until May 26, 2025.
Regarding the assessment of the current carnival, the groups positively valued the development of the events, highlighting the participation and the festive atmosphere. However, they raised some suggestions, such as improvements in infrastructure and the desire to recover the original route of the traditional parade of comparsas and batucadas along the Avenue.
Echedey Eugenio took note of all the proposals raised, emphasizing the importance of continuing to build a participatory, diverse and increasingly successful carnival.
"We want the Carnival to continue growing from participation, consensus and active listening. The groups are the heart of this festival, and their voice is essential to continue moving forward," emphasized the councilman.
