The Department of Culture of the Arrecife City Council, directed by Abigail González, has announced the result of the popular consultation promoted to choose the sculpture that will pay tribute to the city's Carnival.

After several days of open voting (from April 1 to 10) through the municipal website, the proposal identified as option 4 was the preferred one by the majority, obtaining the support of 52.33% of the participants.

The rest of the proposals fell below that support. Option 2 obtained 19.16% of the votes, followed by option 1, with 15.89%, and finally option 3, which received 12.62%.

The Councilor for Culture, Abigail González, has positively valued the development of the process, and thanks the citizens for their involvement.

“We are very satisfied with the participation. We wanted this sculpture to be the result of a popular election and it has been. The Arrecife Carnival is not just a party, it is an expression of who we are, and this work will represent it collectively”, González pointed out.

For his part, the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Festivities, Echedey Eugenio, stressed that “Carnival is one of the cultural pillars of Arrecife, and this sculpture will be a permanent symbol of that tradition. The fact that it was the citizens who decided gives it an even more special value. We have set a precedent that we want to repeat in other initiatives”.

The finalist models, all of them made by the Lanzarote artist Rigoberto Camacho, have been exhibited and accessible in the Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture throughout the voting period, accompanied by QR codes that linked to explanatory videos of the author himself, where the creative process of each work was detailed.

The chosen sculpture will be made of recycled aluminum, with a height of five meters, and its final installation is scheduled for the coming months in a location yet to be determined, which will be announced soon.
