The Councilor for Social Welfare of Arrecife, Maite Corujo, announces that from this Monday, July 21, applications can be made for the Arrecife City Council's aid for school material expenses for the 2025-2026 academic year, endowed with an amount of 120,000 euros and aimed at the acquisition of textbooks, uniforms, sportswear and other school and computer equipment. The deadline will remain open until September 2 inclusive and its processing can be done through the electronic headquarters of the municipal website or in the City Council itself.

Maite Corujo highlights “the important improvements introduced this year with the aim of expanding the scope and facilitating access for the most vulnerable families to these essential aids, among which is the increase in the limit of family income to be considered as beneficiaries, going from a fixed amount of a maximum of 18,000 euros to higher amounts ranging from 25,200 to 61,200 euros, depending on the number of members of the family”.

She also highlights the modification of the concept of Family Unit “in order to benefit the most vulnerable families by reducing the calculation of income to the nuclear family and limiting that of other cohabiting relatives, such as uncles, grandparents or children over 25 years of age, who could leave the family out of the call or obtain a lower score”.

Per capita assessment

Another improvement is that the new bases give a higher score to families with lower incomes and favor families with greater burdens, such as large and single-parent families. In addition, they introduce the per capita assessment compared to the previous absolute one, “that is, the income reference will now be measured by dividing the total family income by the number of members”, says Corujo.

On the other hand, the most vulnerable profiles are favored with a higher subsidy and, compared to a fixed amount of 200 euros in the previous call, three levels of amounts of 250, 200 and 150 euros are established depending on the interval of points obtained; the subsidizable training cycles are also increased, as well as the geographical area of the educational institution and its ownership, including the First Cycle of Early Childhood Education, and all those previously contemplated.

Likewise, the minimum period of residence in the municipality has been reduced as a requirement to obtain the status of beneficiary family, going from 12 to 6 months, and in terms of documentation, the certificate or receipt of registration for the next academic year (2025-26) is replaced by the one that has been taken at the time of making the application. Also, a provisional responsible declaration will be valid until the certificate in question is available.

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Maite Corujo, highly values these modifications made in the regulatory bases of the aid for school material expenses “with which from the Arrecife City Council we take an important step towards a more just social policy adapted to the reality of our families”.
