The Department of Cleaning of the Arrecife City Council, led by Jacobo Lemes, has processed this Thursday nine new complaints for the uncontrolled dumping of belongings on public roads. The events, all of similar characteristics, were captured this morning by the video surveillance cameras installed in different parts of the municipality.

In some cases, the offenders walked to the place to deposit furniture and other bulky objects; in others, they accessed in vehicles that have been identified by the license plate.

Since last February, these cameras are operational and have allowed to open more than a hundred sanctioning files. Citizen collaboration has also been key. Several neighbors, tired of this type of uncivil acts, have provided information and evidence that have allowed to confirm the authorship of the discharges. Thanks to these contributions and the reinforcement of the surveillance system, files continue to be added for a practice that seriously affects the image and health of the city.

The Councilor for Cleaning, Jacobo Lemes, expressly thanks the involvement of the residents and reiterates "the commitment of the City Council in the fight against this problem".

“These behaviors not only threaten coexistence and health, but also pose a serious danger to people. We will not tolerate uncivil acts that deteriorate the city,” he says, and recalls once again that “we have a free collection service for belongings at home and clean points available to all citizens. There are no excuses for abandoning furniture, mattresses or appliances on public roads.”

Since the beginning of the year, the City Council has opened multiple files for illegal dumping. Most of them have been detected through surveillance cameras, while an important part has been possible thanks to citizen collaboration. The sanctions imposed can reach 4,000 euros in the most serious cases.

The Department of Cleaning continues to expand the video surveillance system, which began operating in February 2025, with the aim of preventing the abandonment of belongings and improving the quality of the urban environment. At the same time, it maintains its awareness campaign "Leaving belongings on the street can be expensive", which aims to promote the use of municipal services and avoid sanctionable behaviors.

To request the free collection of belongings, citizens can call 928 815 560.
