The Governing Board of the Arrecife City Council granted this Wednesday a building permit for the remodeling and adaptation of a 5-story building on Calle Real, which housed the Anbeba commercial building. After the works, it will house the new corporate headquarters of the Martínez Hermanos Group.
The project includes the rehabilitation of the facade and expansion of the roof, and in addition to housing the company's offices, the ground floor will be for commercial use.
In this same session of the Governing Board, the license for a two-story building between party walls, 3 homes, a commercial space, and a garage with 3 parking spaces, requested by a Lanzarote SME in the Los Geranios neighborhood, has been authorized.
Following the authorization of these new interventions, the City Council, presided over by Ástrid Pérez, highlights that "in recent times, private initiative is materializing new investments in Arrecife, focusing them on the center of Arrecife, on Calle León y Castillo and surrounding areas." In this regard, they point out that in the coming months there will be two new dental clinics in buildings restored for this purpose, a new bank in Calle Real, and three new high-end restaurants in adjacent streets.
In addition, they recall that in 2020 a sports equipment store and a small cafeteria opened on Calle Real, and the rehabilitation works of the building known as Ferretería Leonardo Armas were completed. At the beginning of this year, the construction works of a new commercial building where there was previously a vacant lot also began on Calle Real, and the restoration works of the Cabrera Panasco building, which will house commercial activity, are underway.
License for the rehabilitation of an old house on Canalejas Street
On the other hand, the City Council has announced that the Department of Urban Planning of the Arrecife City Council, under the direction of the popular councilor Eduardo Placeres Reyes, also granted on April 6 the authorization for the rehabilitation and change of use of an old house on Canalejas Street, which will house a restaurant. In this case, they point out that the request, processed with the prior communication procedure, was presented by "a solid business group from Lanzarote that is already promoting the rehabilitation of another protected building in the area of Plaza de Las Palmas, next to the church of San Ginés".

The mayor, Astrid Pérez, has defended that "the plans put in place by her government group to accelerate the granting of licenses are bearing good fruit." "It is clear that Arrecife attracts private investment, recovers properties that until now offered an image of abandonment in the city center, generates new jobs, and revitalizes the local economy," they say from the government group. For the mayor, "these investments ratify that companies continue to believe in the future of the center of Arrecife for their commercial, business, and hospitality activities."
