The Arrecife City Council, presided over by Astrid Pérez, denounces that the President of the Central Government, Pedro Sánchez, “continues to placidly enjoy his stay in Lanzarote while the Island has once again experienced a new migratory tragedy with the arrival this Friday of ten boats with about 400 immigrants, among whom we must regret a missing girl and another minor in critical condition.”

In this sense, Astrid Pérez, condemns “the apathy of the central government, and the submission of the autonomous government of Ángel Víctor Torres to face the humanitarian drama that is experienced on the coasts of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands” and regrets “the lack of tools that the islands suffer to face the drama that we are experiencing and that lies not only in the lack of decent and legal infrastructures for their care, but also in the lack of human resources and police officers.”

For his part, the first deputy mayor of the Arrecife City Council, David Toledo, describes the central government's “disastrous policy of migratory agreements with Morocco as they are clearly an absolute failure”, and demands “reinforcements for the Canary Islands' reception system and greater interterritorial solidarity in order to carry out an equitable distribution of migrants throughout the territory of the State.”
