The Arrecife City Council Plenary has definitively approved the 2021 budgets this Tuesday, with the rejection of the allegations made by the Canarian Coalition and the partial estimation of those presented by UGT. The accounts amount to 797.7 million euros and from the Consistory they emphasize that they are "the largest budgets in the history" of the capital.

"The policies in social matters and the generation of employment, through public works, will be the priority matters of the Government group chaired by the mayor Astrid Pérez in this year 2021, still affected by the economic crisis due to the pandemic", they add from the City Council.

In this regard, the government group points out that it will inject more than 20 million euros into public works to generate employment and reactivate the island's economy, whose unemployed population is close to 20,000 people." This amount, they specify, comes from the planned items plus the increases due to Treasury surplus.

As for Social Services, the budgets will be around 4 million euros, also with the planned increases via Treasury surplus. The mayor has stressed that if it were necessary to increase that sum, the City Council "has the economic possibility to face it".

Settlement of 2020

During the session, held by videoconference, the Intervention reports on the settlement of the 2020 budget have also been released, which complies "with the Spending Rule and the Budget Stability Law", according to the government group.

"The city of Arrecife has managed in this first economic year of the current government to channel the good management of municipal budgets as reflected in the data provided in the budget settlement of 2020", they point out.

In this regard, they recall that in 2019 they were forced to approve a Budget Stability Plan, "due to non-compliance with state parameters in the years 2018 and 2019, as stated by the previous municipal auditor".
