The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, has reproached Oswaldo Betancort for his "lack of rigor and veracity" in accusing the previous government group of throwing away more than 600,000 euros for not completing the revision of the Island Plan, when "it was his colleague and predecessor, Pedro San Ginés, who was unable to carry out that revision in his ten years of mandate."
The councilor has explained that "San Ginés came to the Presidency of the Cabildo with the progress of the plan already approved and for ten years he was completely unable to complete its processing."
"After so many years, the problem is not only in the changes introduced by the Land Law, but that the initial diagnosis has become obsolete and the proposals are outdated," González said.
"Unfortunately, when we arrived at the Cabildo we found a completely outdated planning instrument," González pointed out, "Clavijo's Land Law, approved in April 2017, introduced regulatory changes of enormous importance and the Ezquiaga plan had not been adapted to those changes."
"Approving it under these conditions would generate enormous legal uncertainty, since all its urban planning determinations completely infringed the Land Law, which prohibits this type of content from appearing in an island plan," the councilor clarified.
On the other hand, as the spokesperson recalls, "the Ezquiaga Plan considered that Lanzarote could continue to grow during the coming years at a rate close to ten percent, against the criteria held by the PSOE and most of the island's society."
For González, "we had to choose between maintaining an Island Plan in force that needs changes but is solid from a legal point of view or betting on a Plan that would be born dead due to its lack of adaptation and that, in addition, foresaw annual growth close to ten percent, the choice was clear."
Finally, the socialist spokesperson has reproached Oswaldo Betancort for his constant use of lies and half-truths: "Oswaldo is lying when he says that the work already done cannot be used. What was left without effect were the procedural acts of the Cabildo and the contract itself with Ezquiaga, all the documentation of the Island Plan can and should be used."
