The Cabildo of Lanzarote, in a plenary agreement adopted this Thursday, approved the appointment of Alejandra Martinón Suárez as the new island director of European Affairs and Employment. Her mission will be to "attract European aid that is very necessary for the Cabildo, whose resources are very limited," said the president, Pedro San Ginés. "We need alternative sources of financing that allow us to face the priority projects for Lanzarote that the current government group plans to execute," he insisted.
Alejandra Martinón is a young lawyer from Lanzarote with a degree in Law from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC). In addition, she has a master's degree in Urban Planning Law and a postgraduate degree in International European Law from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium).
The new island director of European Affairs and Employment, according to the Cabildo, "is backed by her professional experience", which has led her to be the legal head of the European Department of Quality and Environment in the Industrial Association of the Canary Islands (ASINCA). In this institution, she has carried out advisory tasks in matters of REF, REA, ports, foreign trade, subsidies and state aid.
Along those lines, she has also provided her services as manager of Eurocan, a lobby for the interests of the Canary Islands in Europe; and she has been a lawyer in the area of international taxation in the Cuatrecases offices in Madrid; and Stibbe Simont Duhot, in Brussels.
In short, the new island director of European Affairs and Employment is, according to the councilor responsible for the Area, Juan Carlos Becerra, "a person of enormous qualification who will help us to boost and obtain resources for the Cabildo that are very necessary." "Her help and experience will be invaluable," Becerra defended.
The new island director will take office in the coming days, in an act that will take place in the offices of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
