The Alegranza lighthouse is now rehabilitated. As José Montelongo, councilor of Arrecife and representative in the Port Authority, explained this Monday, the improvement works on its exterior have been completed. Montelongo himself visited the facilities this weekend together with the president of the Port Authority, Luis Ibarra, and several Port engineers to check how these works had been carried out.
The Port Authority allocated a sum of 200,000 euros a few months ago for the works on the Alegranza lighthouse, which were awarded to the company Tragsa. The works have improved the building, which, according to Montelongo, "was quite deteriorated, since it is on the edge of the sea and has the wear and tear of time", and also the lighting of the lighthouse itself.
In an interview on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, Montelongo added that now it is "pending" to carry out the improvement of the interior of the building. For this, one of the possibilities would be an "agreement" between the Island Council of Lanzarote and the Port Authority. "The idea was that the Cabildo, in collaboration with Ports, would rehabilitate the interior of the lighthouse and, as one of the possibilities, allow the study of the island's biodiversity," Montelongo explained.
"I imagine that the project will be on the agenda of the president of Ports," said the councilor, who stressed that in these 4 years, Ibarra "has been responding to the requests that we made from here so that Ports would recover not only the Alegranza lighthouse, but also other investments in the port of Arrecife."
