An Iberia flight, covering the Madrid-Tenerife route, had to be diverted this Sunday and land in Lanzarote due to the "violent" attitude of a passenger, as reported to La Voz from the company's press office. Apparently, the man, of Russian nationality, began to argue about the ban on smoking on the plane and allegedly ended up assaulting his partner and insulting a flight attendant.

The man was arrested by the Civil Guard when he set foot in Lanzarote and was later transferred to the Arrecife Courts, where he was charged with a crime of mistreatment in the family environment, another of disturbing public order on a plane and a misdemeanor of threats and insults against a flight attendant, as confirmed to La Voz from the press office of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC).

The plane's commander decided not to continue the flight to Tenerife and gave notice to the Guacimeta airport to be able to land due to "the conflicting behavior" of a man who, according to the same sources, was "drunk". This tourist was accompanied by his wife, who according to the Civil Guard, "was assaulted".

Thus, flight IB0972 left Madrid around 1:00 p.m. bound for Tenerife, where it was scheduled to land at 2:30 p.m., according to forecasts. However, this passenger's attitude caused this plane to take another direction.

Arrest at the airport

When the crew notified the commander of what was happening inside the plane, the pilot decided to communicate the situation to the Lanzarote airport and ask for permission to land. On the runway, the man was arrested by the Civil Guard, who transferred him to the Arrecife Courts.

Finally, with several hours of delay, the other passengers managed to reach Tenerife from Guacimeta. This incident occurred on the same day that a Ryanair plane had problems landing in Lanzarote. [The passengers managed to leave on their own and did not require assistance.->61631]
