A new soft drink whose economic benefits are allocated 51 percent to finance solidarity projects of various NGOs has begun to be sold in the Canary Islands this month, as announced yesterday by the fair trade entity "Dale tu mano", responsible for its distribution, in a statement.

With the arrival on the Canary Islands market of "Somos", a drink made from guarana cola and "made one hundred percent with biological ingredients", according to the writing, the island consumers will be able to "consciously decide how to quench their thirst", choosing to collaborate at the same time in development cooperation, the entity highlights.

And he insists: "it is a totally natural and quality product, composed of carbonated water, unrefined cane sugar, lemon juice, vegetable extracts, guarana extract and caramel".

It emphasizes, however, as its main quality, the fact that, for its elaboration, "the ingredients are obtained from fair trade networks".

"This is the case with sugar and guarana, which is obtained from Majes, a town in the Brazilian Amazon," he says.

He adds that, "currently, the soft drink can be found on the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria", in certain supermarkets and stores of biological products, and emphasizes that "51 percent of the benefits obtained in the Canary Islands will be used to finance solidarity projects managed by NGOs established in the Canary Islands".

"And -he emphasizes- the method of choosing the project will be by voting among consumers".
