The pandemic once again leaves the tourist town of Playa Blanca without Carnival for the second year in a row. However, the Consistory points out that "the spirit of the most carefree festival of the year will be very present in the municipality of Yaiza through the artistic exhibition ExpoCarnaval 2021." It is being finalized and will be located in the southern House of Culture to pay tribute to groups and characters that liven up the celebration. The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, points out that “it is a good time to remember the great protagonists of our Carnival, offering this colorful tribute to the makers of the festivity, which is also an invitation to maintain its inspiring joy.”

Comparsas, batucadas, murgas, drags, mascaritas and children's groups remind us through dresses, headdresses, accessories, photographs and videos of the creativity and immense joy that Carnival represents. The Yaiza City Council is confident that the alert level in Lanzarote for covid-19 will improve so that the exhibition can be visited in person with all the security guarantees from the end of February and throughout the month of March.

The Councilor for Culture, Daniel Medina, points out that “with this small and humble gesture we want to pay tribute to the carnival institution, to those who leave their skin so that the rest of the population can enjoy parties so full of light and color, and at the same time so full of our culture, they are undoubtedly a hallmark of the Canary Islands.”

For his part, the Councilor for Festivities, Javier Camacho, highlights that “it is a shame the cancellation of the events that enhance the Carnival and entertain our neighbors, but now the priority is health and recovering the pulse of the economy, that celebrations will come to share” .

In this same sense, Daniel Medina expresses that “the pandemic is being extremely hard, what cannot take away from us is the desire, the illusion and the hope of moving forward, and this exhibition, which will reach our hearts, will be a revulsive to continue at the forefront of this battle and at the same time that we reinforce the pride of its genuine protagonists”.

In addition to Culture and Festivities, the exhibition has the support of the Social Dynamization Area led by Councilor Águeda Cedrés, a municipal department that successfully organizes the Playa Blanca Canine Carnival, without forgetting the collaboration of the Island Council that has transferred the mannequins installed in the exhibition halls.

The Yaiza City Council processed in a timely manner and has a current Contagion Prevention Plan for the Benito Pérez Armas House of Culture, of course, with the approval of Health.
