In addition to the carnestolendas of Playa Blanca, the Yaiza City Council has decided to suspend the Las Breñas Carnival, which was scheduled to be held on March 29. Likewise, the southern Consistory has suspended the celebration of street markets and has canceled all activities scheduled for the elderly.

"The situation we face demands the utmost respect for institutional decisions and technical recommendations to preserve public health. The global emergency demands absolute responsibility from everyone, from administrations and also, of course, from citizens," said the mayor, Óscar Noda.

As for the elderly, not only have the activities been suspended, but the two premises in the municipality where the group usually interacts have been temporarily closed, one in Yaiza and the other in Playa Blanca. "It is a vulnerable group and for the safety of our elders it is absolutely recommended not to take unnecessary risks," said the first mayor.

Also, the beach cleanup with volunteers scheduled for this Saturday, March 14 and the dynamization of the Uga Market on March 28 are suspended.

The City Council explains that it is suspending all events of any nature where a high concentration of public is expected, following the recommendations detailed in the order of the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands of March 11, which adopts administrative intervention measures to protect health to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

In this regard, the Consistory asks for understanding from the residents, reminding them of gestures as simple as washing their hands frequently with plenty of soap.
