Valentine's Day was celebrated in a very special way in the municipality of Teguise. On the one hand, with words of passion in the VI Love Letters contest "Los Novios de Mojón" and, on the other, with cava in the two tourist offices of the Town Hall.

As for the literary contest, it already has a winner. The letter "Your new boy", by Carmen Fernández Pérez, was chosen this Monday as the most romantic letter in an event at the Manuela y Esperanza Spínola municipal theater in La Villa.

The second prize went to "Pasión Terrenal", by Trini Pestaña Yánez, and the third prize went to the letter "Asomos de primavera", by Gema Ortiz López. The winners will obtain, according to category, 500 euros, 300 euros, and 200 euros, respectively.

These three works, together with the 15 finalists, will be published in an edition of the Teguise City Council. The jury has been composed of Delia Betancort and Ginés Machín, both graduates in Hispanic Philology, and Elba Chaxiraxi García, graduate in English Philology. All three are secondary school teachers. This team had to choose between 133 works and has admitted that it has been "complicated because this year the letters not only had literary quality, but also conveyed a lot of emotion."

The teachers went to the theater accompanied by their 3rd, 4th and 5th year ESO students from IES Teguise and the Instituto Profesional Marítimo Pesquero de Arrecife. Thus, approximately a hundred young people attended the event, which culminated with the reading of the three winning works.

Tourists, also entertained

The Councilor for Culture and Tourism, Oswaldo Betancort, has also highlighted that in the "Teguise Enamora" campaign, visitors who came to the Tourist Office of La Villa or Costa Teguise were treated to a glass of cava. "We want them not to forget this day on the island, in our municipality, and really fall in love with this tourist destination forever," Betancort said in a statement.
