Unidos por Lanzarote has questioned the motives of the Councilor for Health of the Arrecife City Council, Samuel Martín, "for having animals kidnapped in the municipal kennel", since, according to the party's complaint, the mayor "does not allow associations and volunteers to seek a second chance" for these animals, "as was done before the mayor took office." In addition, he has pointed out that in the facilities "there is not an empty cage" and that "some dogs have been waiting for a home for months and others even years."
Unidos por Lanzarote assures in a statement that they have visited the facilities of the municipal kennel to "verify the result of the latest reforms carried out by the Department of Health." In this sense, he has pointed out that although "the number of cages has been doubled, a cat house has been built and the roofs have been changed," "no adoption campaigns are carried out to publicize the animals that are there waiting for a home." For this reason, they have pointed out that "what Samuel Martin has done is encourage abandonment."
"The dogs, while waiting for said adoption, have never left the cage to walk them, since it is forbidden to do so," they pointed out from the party, stressing that "this leads to an increase in stress in these animals."
"Since Christmas 2016, the councilor has prohibited associations and volunteers from accessing to take photos of these dogs, which allow their dissemination on social networks, to facilitate adoption, as has been done until then," they pointed out from Unidos por Lanzarote.
For all these reasons, he has proposed to the Council that "it put all the necessary means and allow volunteers and associations that want to help altruistically to the welfare of these animals, to be able to get a home." He has thus requested "that they can take photos, disseminate them on social networks, walk them and socialize them while they wait for that home that they will surely get more easily in this way." "From Unidos por Lanzarote we hope that this Council accepts these proposals and thus increases the number of adoptions," they concluded.
