Fifty farmers from the municipality of Yaiza and different parts of the island will meet next weekend at the Uga fairgrounds to exhibit more than three hundred and varied specimens of goats, sheep, cattle, pigs, cattle, horses and camels from Lanzarote.
The V Livestock Fair San Isidro Labrador also promises a demonstration of goat milking, cheese making, grain roasting, camel rides, exhibition of local sports, performance of folk groups and the opening of the agricultural and craft market of the town. The exhibition is organized by the Department of Agriculture and Livestock of the Yaiza City Council, with the support of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
Although the opening ceremony is scheduled for 11 am on Saturday, May 26, visitors can tour the fair and the agricultural and craft market from 10 am. The Janubio parrandawill offer its music at 11:30 am and, at noon, the demonstration of milking and making artisan cheeses by residents of the municipality of Yaiza will begin.
Next, the veterinarian of the Experimental Farm will assess the cattle while attendees who prefer can enjoy a camel ride through the area. The exhibition will remain open throughout the day, until 7:00 p.m., but before the closing the Rubicón Folk Group will perform.
The fair will reopen its doors on Sunday 27, at 10 am. From that moment, several activities will take place, such as camel rides, a Canarian wrestling exhibition, cheese making and a grain roasting demonstration, among others.
The awards and diplomas ceremony will be at 1:00 p.m. and the closing of the fair at 3:00 p.m. During the two days, the public will also have the opportunity to visit a house next to the fairgrounds, where old farm tools will be exhibited.
