Two workers at the Tahíche prison have tested positive for the coronavirus, as confirmed to La Voz by Penitentiary Institutions. The first case was detected a few days ago and the second was confirmed this Friday.
"The fact that they are prison workers does not imply that the focus is on the prison," the same sources stressed, who nevertheless could not confirm whether there are more officials or inmates in quarantine as a result of these two positives. What they have highlighted is that so far, neither in the Lanzarote prison nor in any of the Canary Islands have positives been detected among the inmates.
For their part, the Acaip union explains that there are several workers at the center who have been absent from their positions for days as a precaution, either because they have some symptoms compatible with Covid-19 or because they have traveled to areas that were considered at risk - such as Madrid - before the declaration of the state of alarm.
Thus, it is not ruled out that the two affected officials may have contracted the disease independently and outside the Tahíche prison, although this has not been confirmed by Penitentiary Institutions so far.
