In the hours before the arrival of December 5, International Volunteer Day, the Municipal Theater of Tinajo was the scene of an emotional act included in the City Council's Christmas program, a public recognition "more than deserved" to Civil Protection of Tinajo.
The event, presented by the popular Carmen Nieves, served to grant the members of Civil Protection the recognitions of the National Association of Groups and Associations of Civil Protection Volunteers of Spain, the 'Medal of recognition for the COVID-19 pandemic' and the 'Medal of Merit', in addition to awarding the trajectory of some volunteers based on the time they have been in the corps.
For the councilor of the area, Yurena Cubas, "it is a more than deserved act for the volunteers of Civil Protection of Tinajo." "At the time we requested it from the Island Directorate of the State Administration in Lanzarote but we are still without a response after months of waiting. I announce that the City Council of Tinajo will soon begin the process to give them an official recognition, but the effort made since the beginning of the pandemic has been so great that we could not pass up the intention of the national association to recognize their trajectory," added the councilor.
The mayor, Jesús Machín, made it more than clear in his speech "the enormous value for the society of Tinajo of being able to count on a Civil Protection corps like the one it has." "Their work for years but, especially, their connection with the people since the beginning of the pandemic is immense. Faced with that, one can only say, thank you on behalf of all the inhabitants of Tinajo," concluded the mayor.
Other councilors from the government group attended the event, such as Vianney Rodríguez, Elisabeth Olivero and Luis Miguel Pérez. There was also support from the councilor of San Bartolomé, Mamadou Yero Sy Cisse, as well as representation from the volunteer corps of the batatero municipality.
