Costa Teguise International Jazz Day 2026

Costa Teguise brings you this Friday, May 1st to Plaza Tenerife the International Jazz Day (6:30 PM to 10 PM).

Since Unesco sponsored Jazz Day as a heritage of humanity, this event echoes freedom of expression using jazz music as a universal vocabulary, where the values of respect and equality among different societies, ethnicities, and respect for different ways of understanding the world prevail.

This event that has become popular in recent years and makes all human beings unite through music for a cause around these values so important today in current society, where the times and difficulties from wars between peoples dehumanize and divide us.

From the Teguise City Council through the Department of Tourism headed by Rita Emma Hernández Callero, this event is supported in its second edition with a program that bets on local talent and invites international artists of excellence to make it a unique event and position Costa Teguise along with Lanzarote on that World Map where local and international audiences can enjoy an extraordinary jazz evening.

The second part of the night and closing of the day will be in charge of the great Deele Dubé. 'A fascinating soul' according to Jazz Times.

The London-based, multi-award-winning singer-songwriter Deelee Dubé made history as the first British winner of the Sassy Awards by winning the prestigious Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition in 2016, and possesses what JazzTimes called 'a warm tone, authentic blues, and easy rhythmic authority'.

"Exploring the cello tones that marked his deep register (and that recalled the Divine itself)" according to Downbeat, she embodies a stellar South African musical lineage, with the eclectic tastes of a London upbringing and a deep love and respect for the jazz tradition. Deelee's late father was the famous South African pianist Jabu Nkosi and her grandfather was another legendary figure in the country's music scene, the saxophonist and bandleader Zacks (Isaac).

Ms. Dubé, the first British woman to be awarded the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Award, has a voice of pure gold – Trevor Bannister (for JazzMann). Former resident vocalist at the legendary London venue Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club for the Acoustic Jazz Lounge alongside presenter and saxophonist Renato D'Aiello, in 2017 Deelee embarked on a short tour of North America with a successful debut at the Montreal Int'l Jazz Festival in Quebec, Canada. This was followed by a stellar performance at the Revellin Auditorium Theatre in Ceuta for International Jazz Day, organised in collaboration with the La Coctelera association and UNESCO, which received rave reviews from the Spanish press. In 2018, Deelee completed a Master of Arts in Vocal Studies at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and graduated at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. She also performed as part of the Royal Albert Hall's 150th anniversary series in Celebrating Women and the Salon. With support from the likes of Sheila Jordan, Bebel Gilberto, 3T, Lori Lieberman, actress Zoe Saldana, as well as the late Chick Corea, among others, Deelee is one of the most talented vocalists to emerge from the London scene in many years. Recorded on the Concord Jazz US label and released digitally in 2020 with unequivocal critical support, 'Trying Times' was acclaimed with four stars as 'a very impressive debut' by All About Jazz, and subsequently won the South African Mzantsi Jazz Award for Best International Jazz Collaboration in 2021.In Dube recorded Ray Noble's Cherokee in collaboration with the Spanish jazz pianist Juan Galiardo's trio, commissioned by the Brecon Jazz Festival. Her rendition of the 1938 standard continues to receive international recognition, particularly in South Africa, where she was recently nominated for Best Female Jazz Artist and Best Jazz Song (Cherokee) in July of '23.

On this occasion, she will be accompanied by a spectacular quintet of Canarian musicians: Kike Perdomo on tenor sax, José Alberto Medina on piano, Agustín Buenafuente on double bass, and Manu Castellano on drums, to accompany her in the repertoire chosen for the occasion. The event will begin with an opening from 6:30 PM on May 1st by DJ Lunicu, who will introduce us to jazz to set the mood for the ceremony before the concerts.
