The municipality of Tinajo has been the third to join this edition of the 'Library on the Beach Summer 2005' program. Until now, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Honda were the only two locations with their library. The municipal authorities yesterday inaugurated the facility located next to the beach, which will allow residents and tourists in the area to enjoy reading a book during their rest time.
The library has approximately 500 volumes. Of these, around 100 belong to the Tinajo City Council and the rest to the Island Library. In addition, many of the books are children's stories, which aims to instill the habit of reading in the little ones who are currently on summer vacation. However, there are also publications of a juvenile and adult nature "so we have tried to have books for all tastes," explained the Councilor for Education and Culture Juan Rodríguez. In addition, each day the council will acquire the national and international press in English so that people are informed.
System
Those who want to take out a book will go to the library where an employee will make them a card. The loan is for one week to try to keep the books available for as long as possible. The facility will be open until September 5 every day of the week from ten in the morning to two in the afternoon and from five to eight in the evening. Even holidays will be open, although the hours will be reduced to a couple of hours in the morning, since the objective is that on the indicated dates people come to the facility to read the newspapers.
