The elderly of the municipality of Yaiza have a new space in Playa Blanca to develop permanent and occasional activities organized by the City Council or initiatives that come from themselves. Around 100 seniors attended the fellowship party that opened the public-owned premises on Friday, located in the facilities of the Playa Blanca Bus Station.
The mayor, Gladys Acuña, and the councilors, Manuela Martín and Rafael Tavío, accompanied the residents during the afternoon, which was enlivened by the good humor of the seniors. They also enjoyed a snack and a dance with live music.
In addition to the venue, the City Council has enabled two Canarian ball courts with lighting on the esplanade adjacent to the Bus Station. The premises will be open from Monday to Friday from 3:00 p.m. and on weekends when seniors need it.
The Social Dynamization area of the Yaiza City Council promotes, among other permanent activities for the elderly, the practice of Canarian ball, crafts workshops, literacy days, hiking, maintenance gymnastics, talks, theater, play back and swimming. It also organizes cultural trips in the Canary Islands and the Peninsula. The intention, according to the Department, is to ensure that seniors go out, interact and have fun.
The seniors thanked the City Council for the possibility of enjoying an alternative space to the one they already have in Yaiza town and the mayor promised more attention and initiatives aimed at them. Some 300 seniors from the municipality participate in the range of activities proposed by the City Council.
