Canal Gestión Lanzarote has reported a new break in the underwater supply pipe to La Graciosa, only two days after the previous one was repaired. "The supply is once again in a critical situation," the company states.

However, on this occasion the break has been detected a short distance from the shore, about 15 meters, and the company will try to repair it with its own means from 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, taking advantage of the low tide.

"In the event that the necessary work could not be carried out with the means available at this time, on Friday we would try again with the presence of divers. In this case, it would not be necessary to have the team of five divers and the regulatory support vessel, as required by the regulations, because this breakdown appears to be located near the shore and at a depth of between 1 and 2 meters", they point out from Canal.

"This is a situation that was foreseeable, as had already been anticipated based on the opinion of the divers who repaired the last two breakdowns, who alerted this company that this pipe was already in its last days of useful life and that it was very likely that complications would arise again," adds the company, which demands that the Water Consortium assume the investment of replacing this underwater conduit.

In addition, it warns that although the water supply returned to function "with practical normality" on Wednesday, "the two storage tanks in La Graciosa are currently with scarce resources, given the consumption that has been exercised by the population" after the interruption of the supply for two days.

"Right now, many of these residents will have water thanks to the fact that they have managed to refill their private tanks, but it is known that others have not had that opportunity; so it is very likely that there will be a lack of water in some cases, and in others, anomalies in the supply," he says.

In its statement, the company concludes by stating that it "deeply regrets the great inconveniences that the residents and visitors of La Graciosa are suffering" and that it hopes that "a definitive solution can be given as soon as possible and among all".
