Since July 1, people with fewer economic resources can benefit from a novel measure that the Government is carrying out due to the new regulations regarding the electricity service for domestic consumers (Royal Decree-Law 6/2009 and 485/2009), which has established a social bonus for those citizens with fewer economic possibilities.
Consumers whose contracted power is less than 3 kW may automatically benefit from the social bonus. Also large families, pensioners receiving minimum amounts and family units with all their members in a situation of unemployment, by request to the supplying company, as reported by the Cabildo through a press release.
This measure consists of freezing the price of electricity, which will remain at the rate in force before the aforementioned date, always in the beneficiary's habitual residence. To do this, the supply must be carried out with one of the companies designated by the Government as "suppliers of last resort" and the only ones authorized to manage relations with affiliated customers.
