The Sara animal and plant protection organization organized a solidarity initiative last Saturday, "a pioneer in Lanzarote." A group of runners sensitized to the abandonment of animals joined to carry out a race in the mountains of Tinajo. The companions of these athletes were none other than the dogs housed in the facilities of the Tinajo municipal kennel.
"The race with these animals was an act of solidarity that generated personal well-being in the participants and moments of freedom for the dogs. It was, without a doubt, a day full of emotions, since let's remember that many of these animals have been there for several months waiting for someone to be interested in them because they are up for adoption," Sara reported.
Tinguato, Brisote, Chimida and Zarapico are the names of the dogs that "for one day regained the illusion of a second chance." "Upon returning from the long walk they seemed to smile, exhausted they thanked their new friends for this day of freedom. Without a doubt, it will be an experience that will be repeated over time. We thank the runners for their time and great heart," they said from the shelter through a statement.
This activity was part of an action plan led by the Animal Protection area of Tinajo and Sara. Both institutions have been developing "close collaboration to improve the living conditions of the animals in the municipality" for a few months.
Thus, on the one hand, they condition the kennel facilities and, on the other, they generate actions aimed at promoting awareness that eradicates irresponsible animal ownership. In addition, they also try to reduce the number of abandonments. Last December, the first day to promote adoptions in Tinajo was held and coordinated actions will continue to be carried out during the coming months.
Sara wanted to thank the "dedication and motivation" shown by the area's councilor, Manuel Guillén, "to make all these goals a reality."
