Arrecife: The capital triples the robberies
Proof that home robberies are mostly carried out by people known to the police, and therefore repeat offenders, is the case of the capital. "Of all the reports that have occurred in Arrecife for robberies, a total of 20 in the last month (May), most of them have been produced by the same individual", says Juan Antonio Fernández, chief commissioner of the National Police, who states that this year in May, home robberies have increased by 15 due to the actions of a single person. A middle-aged man, who according to the commissioner, was a "known offender" by the security forces, as he had been arrested on several occasions. Except for cases like this, the number of complaints in Arrecife in the National Police, show an average of five home robberies per month, according to Fernández.
San Bartolomé: In the first six months of the year, the Local Police has registered an average of four complaints for home robberies. The sub-inspector of the Local Police, Silverio Reyes, has assured that "they are people who know the neighbor and know the time they work, so at the slightest carelessness of the tenants, the thieves take the opportunity". According to Reyes, the area that registers the most complaints is Playa Honda. Although "when they see that we catch them, they go to act elsewhere, they vary the areas", says the sub-inspector, pointing out the mobility of this type of criminals.
Yaiza: Unlike the rest of the municipalities with tourist apartment areas, Yaiza, according to the sub-inspector of the Local Police, Emilio Hernández, "does not register a variation in the number of home robberies in summer" in relation to the rest of the year, an average of five complaints per month. "It usually goes up a little but it is not an excessive increase", clarifies Hernández. In addition, the profile of the thieves in that area varies from the rest of the municipalities since "most of the criminals in this type of cases are from outside the island", he says.
Haría: With only three complaints for robbery in properties on average during the first five months of the year, the municipality of Haría is one of the least events of this type registers, only being surpassed by Tinajo. According to the Chief of Police, Eraclio Niz, "this type of robberies are not very frequent in the municipality, here we all know each other".
Tías: In the last three months, a total of 23 robberies in homes and properties have occurred in the municipality of Tías, according to official data. "An average of seven robberies per month", says the chief commissioner of Tías, Francisco Hernández, who also confirms that the most punished area is Puerto del Carmen. "Tourist apartments are the most tempting for thieves because tourists bring cameras and are more careless when leaving windows open", says the commissioner.
Tinajo: One complaint for home robberies per month, is the average that according to the Chief of the Local Police, Manuel Guillén Pérez, occurs in the municipality of Tinajo. "In the last four months there have been three robberies and two thefts", he said, adding that "most of them have occurred in the hotel of Club La Santa". However, he stressed that vehicle robberies are the most frequent in the municipality. "They break the windows because they see a bag or anything", says Guillén to describe the incidents that have tourists as victims in the areas of Las Malvas and in the Mountains of Fire".
Teguise: "Costa Teguise and Tahiche are the areas that, due to their proximity to Arrecife, are most punished by this type of robberies", says the Chief of Police, Javier Machín, who assures that "the average of this type of complaints so far this year is six, "normally to solve them we have the collaboration of citizens" since they are the first people to alert the police. Machín also assures that "the alleged thieves are usually people from Arrecife or natives of Las Palmas".
