The Pueblo Maho association denounces new acts of vandalism in the Castle of Santa Bárbara and asks for more surveillance. "On the mountain of Guanapay stands the castle of Santa Bárbara and San Hermenegildo, which again in the 21st century has been attacked by pirates and corsairs who do not respect the heritage, acting with absolute ignorance scratching and putting their name on newly restored walls (financed with a figure close to 800,000 euros?.

Thus, the president of the association, Roberto Perdomo, has stated that “we are facing an act of vandalism that harms us all; the castle is the heritage of the island and as such we must protect it”.

From the cultural association they maintain that "the problem is not only this but the lack of control and surveillance in its vicinity, since no one cares who accesses and for what purpose along the main road or the dirt tracks".

In this sense, Orlando Hernández, spokesperson for the group, wanted to remember that “it is not the first time that the castle has suffered this type of act. A few months ago they broke in to steal and to date there is no news about that fact”.

Likewise, from the group they argue that "Lanzarote and in general the islands continue with serious problems of piracy, very different from those of past centuries; these are more aimed at the lack of awareness and respect for a heritage that belongs to everyone."

Faced with this context, Pueblo Maho demands that there be more surveillance of the island's heritage assets. "It is necessary to ensure our cultural heritage, our past and our future," they conclude in the press release.
