The proclamation of the former parish priest of Yaiza, Heriberto Martín, will open the Los Remedios festivities this Monday

The festivities in honor of the Holy Patroness of Yaiza begin this Monday, September 2, at 8:00 p.m., with the proclamation by a person very dear in the south of the Island: Heriberto Martín Molina, parish priest of Yaiza between 2000 and 2004 and current chaplain of the Dr. Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas.

From that night, the town welcomes an eight-day program of celebrations that proposes religious fervor, tradition, sports, music and countless surprises. The invitation is open to anyone who wishes to share an integrating week, for which the City Council recommends consulting the complete agenda of events on the institutional website.

On the same night of the proclamation, the photographic exhibition Images for Remembrance will open, a compilation of more than 200 photos of residents of the municipality taken from the twenties onwards. On the opening day, the elders of Yaiza will also perform with their show Kimbara ? Kimbara.

Tuesday includes the paddle tennis tournament, children's workshops, Coral Meeting and the great Dance and Parrandas Night, with performances by Raíces, Pal Porrón and Parranda Janubio. Yaiza's festive week is full of music, and the Volcano group will perform on Wednesday night, just on the day of the mobile phone photography contest.

In the middle of the festivities, the Entre Amigos de Yaiza theater takes to the stage with its humorous work Médico a garrotazos, so Thursday is the time to have a laugh at the ingenuity of the natural actors of the municipality. Friday afternoon is reserved for art with the drawing contest at the House of Culture, and at night, one of the most beautiful events of the festivities: the Rubicón Folkloric Group Festival. For some reason it is one of the events that brings together the largest audience considering all the town festivals, a true ode to Canarian folklore that the public of Lanzarote cannot miss. After the Rubicón Festival, the verbena is lit with the Arena de Gran Canaria group and Bomba de Fuerteventura.

The third edition of the K10 Xtreme Yaiza obstacle course will be held on Saturday, September 7. The hardness of the course tests the physical power of the athletes who will try to reach the finish line in the La Degollada area.

In the afternoon, Pilgrimage through the streets of Yaiza. An appointment with tradition and a time to offer fruits of the earth to the Virgen de Los Remedios. The Pilgrimage leaves at 7:00 p.m. from the soccer field and the participation of the A.F Timbayba, A.F La Peña, A.F Rubicón and the Parranda Janubio is confirmed, among other groups. Without a doubt, the Pilgrimage comes to life with the massive participation of residents, therefore, the Department of Festivities of Yaiza invites you to actively participate in this pilgrimage.

Saturday is long in Yaiza. After the offerings, performances by folk groups on stage and the election of magicians, there is the verbena enlivened by Banda Nueva de Lanzarote and the group La Vieja Escuela de Tenerife.

With the excellent performance of the southern youth futsal team, Campos de Lanzarote, this sport continues to gain fans. Well, at the Fiestas there is an opportunity to leave the stands and jump onto the court in the game of singles and married men on Sunday morning, next to the Municipal Gymnasium. The celebrations continue with the Hat Party and the musical performance of La Vieja Escuela.

We must not forget that Sunday, September 8, is Remedios Day. The Solemn Function will be at 7:00 p.m. and then the procession. The poster for the Remedios Gala proposes this year the performance of the Ballet Dance Pop, Daniel Valiente and the singer Edwin Rivera, in the Yaiza square, in front of the church. The closing of the festivities will be on Monday with a barbecue enlivened by the Los Salineros de La Hoya gang. The Yaiza Festival Commission and the Department of Festivities of the Consistory hope for the participation and integration of residents and tourists.
