The proclamation of former Senator Marcos Hernández kicked off the patron saint festivities of San Roque, in Tinajo, which began this Saturday. Hernández was accompanied at this event by the priest of the parish of Tinajo, Víctor González, and by the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín.
The town crier moved the public that attended the event to the year 1200, the time from which the legend of San Roque dates. Hernández made a comparison between those times and the present.
The City Council has stated in a statement that the proclamation and the town crier were "endearing and close". Hernández was chosen to start these festivities "unanimously" by the governing group of Tinajo. "He brought to the stage who was once a political rival. Jesús Machín and Marcos Hernández shook hands with mutual admiration in honor of their patron San Roque", the Council has reported.
Marcos Francisco Hernández Guillén was born in Tinajo on October 1, 1970. Graduated in Pedagogy from the University of La Laguna (Tenerife), he began in politics when he was "18 or 19 years old, with social and cultural concerns and motivations". He worked in the Social Services area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, in charge of resolving issues related to education and drug addiction.
Hernández has participated in groups and since he was very young he has been a member of the PSOE. Under these acronyms he has been councilor and mayor of the Tinajo City Council, as well as deputy of the Parliament of the Canary Islands and senator for Lanzarote. Hernández was mayor of Tinajo when he was only 28 years old, becoming the youngest mayor of the municipality in the 20th century.
