The newly formed Castillo de Teguise Federation of Agricultural and Fisheries Associations is already part of the associations of the Canary Islands that are joining forces to carry out an action plan for the sustainable development of the primary sector, a fact that the Teguise City Council has celebrated, congratulating its members for this step towards associationism.

From its inception, the federation (whose acronym is FASAT) is made up of the Maramajo de Teguise Livestock Association, the Montaña de Los Valles Farmers Association and the ADSG Guanapay de Teguise. The main objective of all of them, who have the institutional support of the City Council, is to boost and activate the primary sector by supporting farmers, ranchers and seafood producers in the municipality of Teguise, the island of Lanzarote and La Graciosa with actions to promote the commercialization and production of products.

The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, who a few days ago signed a collaboration agreement with representatives of the primary sector, wanted to congratulate the Federation "because together they will achieve better results in the promotion of their products and, therefore, in the local economy, in addition to supporting the sustainable development of farms, sandpits, jables, gavias, etc., and this translates into sustainable livestock and fishing, to guarantee continuity for our future generations," said Betancort, pointing out that "we must not forget that we live on an island declared a Biosphere Reserve, for being a unique place, for its biological and environmental wealth."

The roadmap set by FASAT and the Teguise City Council, -under the premise of working with concepts of equity, cooperation, self-management, solidarity, justice and social integration, as well as environmental sustainability and circular economy-, involves launching a digital platform to promote the different agricultural, livestock and fisheries producers; carrying out campaigns aimed at consumption for the dissemination of the social, economic and environmental function of the primary sector; implementing actions to improve the profitability of local production; and the creation of a food brand for the primary sector, among other initiatives such as the promotion of home delivery.
