The Arrecife Municipal School of Music closed the 2009/10 academic year last Friday, June 11, at the Torrelavega Society, with a concert by the students of the Music Academy. As a complement to teaching in the classrooms, the Plucked String Orchestra and the rest of the School's students offered a free recital, which was attended by numerous parents, who did not want to miss the performance of these young musicians. The Councilor for Culture, Lorenzo Lemaur, was also among the audience.
With the purpose of contributing to the promotion of culture in the musical area, the Municipal School of Music was created in 1989, with the idea of creating a youth music band. Its first performance was on August 22, 1992 during the San Ginés festivities, and consisted of a parade and an open-air concert. Throughout its musical career, the Municipal Band has performed at all the festivals in the towns of Lanzarote.
For its part, the Municipal Plucked String Orchestra was created with the aim not only of giving concerts, but also of contributing to the instrumental training of people who request it. Thus, it teaches courses in string instruments (lute, guitar, bandurria and mandolin), for ages between 12 and 35 years and free registration.
Likewise, the Municipal Academy of Music offers classes, from the age of 7, in wind and percussion instruments (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion).
