The Superior Headquarters of the Canary Islands Police has presented this Thursday morning the new iZ vehicles that will patrol the Islands starting this summer.
According to the police force, these are Toyota Prius+ smart vehicles equipped with advanced communication and image recording technologies, which allow the exchange of information through the sending and receiving of messages, photographs and videos in real time.
The main technological functionalities will allow the iZ to automatically recognize 400 license plates per minute. They have efficient electric hybrid technology as a guarantee of maximum environmental sustainability and reduced consumption.
Móvil police offices at the service of the citizen
The new patrol cars are equipped with technologies that allow interoperability between them, with other police forces and with police bases, which makes them mobile offices in which agents can carry out procedures that, until now, could only be carried out in fixed posts. For example, they will have fingerprint readers connected to the SAID that will allow the in situ identification of people.
The entire image and sound capture system of the iZ is unquestionable to guarantee the chain of custody, being admitted as evidence if necessary, and to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens. In addition, the cell for detainees complies with all legislation relating to Human Rights.
Central console that allows control of all iZ functions
The central console of the vehicle has a 10-inch touch screen that allows control of all its additional functions. Agents will be able to carry out manual information queries - through the touch screen itself or through an external keyboard - or automatically - through document or fingerprint readers.
The new iZ has an OCR license plate recognition system that allows automatic identification of the vehicle located in the front area, automatically querying the license plate. This system, capable of consulting 400 plates per minute with instant recognition, effectively performs the function in a low light and even night environment.
In addition, the new patrol car has an advanced image display and recording system as it has a front and a rear camera installed, both located inside the vehicle, which allow recording in the direction of travel and in the rear. It also has a camera in the detention cell that allows the visualization and recording of images automatically, when detecting physical presence in that place, or at the request of the agent.
Commitment to the environment
The National Police is an eminently urban body and considers it essential to link this character with the conservation of the environment. With the incorporation of these vehicles, the General Directorate of the Police affirms that it is committed to clean and environmentally sustainable technologies, with more efficient units that manage to reduce the carbon footprint of the police fleet.
