The staff of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote and the health centers of Valterra, Tías, San Bartolomé and Titerroy have been expanded with the incorporation of six new resident internal doctors (MIR), according to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands. Roberto Sierra Farinelli, Laura Rivero Amador, Raquel Ojeda Ruiz, Claudia Hernández Pantoja, Cathaysa Estévez Bolaños and Adelaida Ortega Sarmiento will carry out the specialty program in Family and Community Medicine in different services of the hospital and in these outpatient clinics. These six doctors constitute the 27th promotion of MIR trained in the Teaching Units of the Island.
The new resident doctors have the personal and material resources, healthcare, teaching and research devices necessary to receive regulated training in the specialty of Family and Community Medicine through the residency system (MIR), in accordance with the provisions of the official program of the specialty. This training, according to the Ministry of Health, is periodically subjected to an audit process to evaluate its training quality.
Currently, another 20 resident doctors are training in the Teaching Units dependent on the Management of Health Services of the Health Area of Lanzarote. These students are guided by several specialist collaborators from the Molina Orosa Hospital and tutors in the Primary Care centers.

The Teaching Units, which have trained more than a hundred professionals, began their journey in 1991. Although it was not until 1996, under the leadership of studies by Dr. José Luis Ibero Villa, when it separated from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and obtained its autonomy and accreditation from the Ministry of Health. The accreditation of services for the training of residents is carried out after validating the strict requirements necessary to be an accredited center or service for the training of residents.
In the Head of Studies at that time, in addition to Dr. Ibero Villa, was José Luis Cabrera as a Health technician. Since then, the Head of Studies has been led by, among others, Dr. Carlos Jiménez, Dr. Silvia Carbajo, Dr. Antonia Solano and Dr. María del Mar Sánchez. Currently, the Headquarters is led by Verónica Gutiérrez, together with Blanca Jiménez and Delia Alemán, as secretary.
