The Mercedes Medina Díaz Association presented the first monthly payment of its scholarships this Monday, August 31, which benefited 10 university students.

According to the association, in compliance with the prevention measures against Covid, the 10 scholarship recipients went one by one to its headquarters to collect the first payment of the scholarship and the corresponding accreditation from representatives of the NGO and some businessmen who approached, "respecting the conditions of proximity, avoiding greetings, abundant hand washing and using a mask designed specifically for the event".

In this edition, six places were initially offered, but "in view of the avalanche of requests motivated by the pandemic", the Mercedes Medina Association attended to four more requests. In this regard, it indicates that it had to make "a great effort" in the search for new resources, to collect "in record time" 27,000 euros.

Specifically, in this ninth edition, beneficiaries have been Gabriela Benavidez Rojas, from Mozaga, a 2nd year student of Medicine at the University of Valladolid; Paola Andrea Botina Román, from Arrieta, who is studying 1st year of Nursing at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC); Jéssica Hernández Domínguez, from Arrecife, a 2nd year student of Biology at the University of Seville; María José Hernández Marín, from Titerroy, who is studying 2nd year of Human Nutrition and Dietetics at the U.C. of Madrid; and Yussef Martín Mohamed, from Playa Honda, a 1st year student of Social Work at the University of La Laguna (ULL).

"The awarding of scholarships is the most important and satisfactory act among the wide range of activities organized by the Mercedes Medina Díaz Association", adds the organization, which explains that its scholarships "are not scholarships for use".

"The university student receives the monthly contribution, but also all the students interact with the association about the academic and social progress in their respective faculties and universities during the school year and little by little the great family has been expanding among all those who have graduated and obtained degrees with this help", details the Mercedes Medina Association, which points out that, due to the circumstances that occur in this edition due to Covid, the first meeting with the scholarship recipients as a presentation will be carried out by the videoconference system.
