The Arrecife City Council has congratulated the Animal Protection Unit of the Local Police "for their good work and sensitivity in rescuing a dog that, frightened by the fireworks, refused to come out from under a car. In addition, the City Council highlights that several national and local media "have valued and made viral" a video showing the intervention of agents Fran Godoy and Rafa Méndez.

According to the City Council, "the agents used their skills to get the animal to leave on its own, without forcing it and with the sensitivity" that, they argue, "the agents in this area should have."

A national media outlet even titles it 'The best Christmas gift: a rescue', they highlight from the Consistory, from where its mayor, Eva de Anta, and the Councilor for the Local Police, David Duarte, have been "proud" of the attitude of the agents, who are "an example of training."

The animal had been hidden under a car for "hours"

According to the City Council, the dog had been "hidden for hours" under a car, "prey to the panic of the fireworks", and "thanks to the training of the local police officers of Arrecife in dealing with animals, they were able to rescue her without any problem." "The agents, seeing the puppy scared, trembling and distrustful, have carried out their knowledge in dealing with the animal since its self-defense was to bite," it is added.

"We have caught her with the greatest possible tact and that she suffered as little as possible. We know that dogs get very stressed when they are captured with the lasso, it is a quick but very stressful capture for them, but immediately the partner gained her trust and even let herself be petted," said agent Fran Godoy.

The City Council points out that the animal has a chip and a plate with a telephone number, but since the contact did not answer, they have transferred her to the Sara Animal Shelter. It is also recalled that the Animal Protection Unit of the Local Police of Arrecife has organized several workshops on this topic and even on complaints against animal abuse.
