'The Lion King', the natural world that surrounds this animated film and the subsequent musical will be the main protagonists of the Puerto del Carmen Carnival 2020, which was presented this Friday at the Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park facilities with the presence of the representatives of the Carnival groups of the municipality: the Sur Caliente troupe, the Chimbay batucada, the Los Gruñones band and the Los Guaracheros troupe.
The Councilor for Festivities, Sergio García, presented the program together with the first Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Mame Fernández, and the manager of Rancho Texas, Nicolás López, who gave the facilities for this purpose. During the presentation it was announced that the route of the Gran Coso will return this year to Avenida de Las Playas at the corner of Avenida Italia, "at the request of the Carnival groups and the members of the floats".
The color of nature and the Puerto del Carmen Carnival, which is enjoyed every year by both the population of Lanzarote and tourists, was recreated this Friday in a reproduction of a volcanic tube in Rancho Texas, with numerous visual effects and images on its walls of the carnestolendas of the town.
Mame Fernández praised the work of the Carnival groups and highlighted the figure of Nicolás López Ramírez, "for the affection and enthusiasm he displays." "We need businessmen like Nicolás, who collaborate with the administration and has given us his house to present the Carnival, in addition to the float he is preparing. From the City Council we make ourselves available to the residents and businessmen of the Island to continue along this path of collaboration," he said.
Sergio García explained that the presentation "is done in advance, because it is required not only by the carnival-goers who prepare their costumes and themes well in advance, but also by the numerous visitors who schedule their vacations to come to the Carnival."
Performance by Don Patricio
The councilor highlighted, among other events, the "stellar" performance and for the first time in Lanzarote of the singer Don Patricio, author of the single 'Contando lunares', who will perform on Friday, February 28 at 9:30 p.m. in El Varadero.
García also thanked Rancho Texas for their willingness to participate in the Puerto del Carmen Carnival and congratulated the members of Los Guaracheros, Los Gruñones, Chimbay and Sur Caliente, for the work done in the carnestolendas and in the patron saint festivities of the municipality. The official presentation of the groups will take place on February 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Tías Municipal Pavilion.
The government group extended congratulations to the Festivities and Roads and Works workers, as well as to the members of the Security and Emergency bodies that operate in the municipality (Local Police, Civil Guard and Civil Protection) and with special mention to the volunteers who will participate again this year in the coordination of the carnival parade.
