The San Ginés festivities will begin this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. with the reading of the proclamation by the veteran sports journalist Pascual Calabuig, correspondent for Spanish Television in the Canary Islands. The official event will be held in the Plenary Hall of the City Council.
Pascual Calabuig, a Valencian who has lived in the Canary Islands since the mid-last century, has been recognized on numerous occasions by institutions of the islands and by sports clubs for his commitment to Canarian sports and to minority and vernacular disciplines, to which he gave space and specific weight in his journalistic work, as highlighted by the Arrecife City Council. His passion for Lanzarote, its landscapes and its people led him to buy a house in Playa Blanca, where he spends a large part of the year.
The inaugural day will also be an important day in terms of the weight of the programmed activities, as it is the eve of the festivity of the Virgen de la Asunción, a non-working day throughout the island. For this reason, after the reading of the proclamation, the election of Miss Arrecife, the queen of San Ginés and her ladies-in-waiting will take place in the Fairgrounds. From 9:30 p.m., the 17 candidates will parade before the public, who will also be able to enjoy the performances of Juanjo and Walter.
The youngest will have the opportunity to dance until dawn at the Europa Summer Dance, thanks to the work of the djs Valdi (El Hormiguero) and Jonathan Castilla, from twelve o'clock at night in the dome of the Fairgrounds. This concert is organized by Europa FM.
In the sports field, at 5:00 p.m. the indoor soccer tournament will begin in the Titerroy pavilion and at 9:00 p.m. a "night aquathlon" will take place, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife.
