The Island Theater hosted a conference on the design of cultural work in Lanzarote for the next eight years

The implementation days of the Lanzarote Cultural Action Plan 20-20, organized by the Education area of the Cabildo, were inaugurated this Thursday at the Insular Theater of Arrecife. The work and the different presentations took place this Thursday and this Friday, the day on which the conference has been closed.

The event was officially presented by the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, and the Minister of Culture, Enma Cabrera, before part of the 50 registered in this activity. San Ginés spoke of culture as "victim and scapegoat of economic hardships, especially in a crisis like the current one" and referred to the effort that the island institution is making "to enable cultural infrastructures".

The president expressed his satisfaction with the launch of initiatives such as this Lanzarote 20-20 Action Plan. For her part, the Minister explained that "in May 2011, the Cabildo decided to take a further step and specify the bases proposed in the first strategic plan of the Canary cultural sector, approved at the end of 2010." "From this effort of adaptation to Lanzarote emerged the Lanzarote 20-20 Plan, as a central instrument of the island's cultural policy, with the added self-demand of placing it as a total implementation objective in 2020," he said.

"In this time, the framework of public cultural action has changed considerably and as this situation of difficulty is presented as lasting, we are forced to make a new effort of analysis, discussion and consensus to specify a new collective pact in unprecedented conditions," added the Minister, who assured that the "cultural sector of Lanzarote has much to say in overcoming this crisis situation and also in the design of its future development model".
