The reason for decreeing the pre-alert is the poor condition of the sea and the strong waves in the Archipelago, with a northwest swell of 2-3 meters

The Government of the Canary Islands has decreed this Friday the pre-alert for wind and waves in the Canary Islands. In addition, as La Voz already announced, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issued the yellow warning for wind for this Saturday in Lanzarote, with maximum gusts of 70 kilometers per hour on the island.

The reason for decreeing the pre-alert for coastal phenomena is because there will be a northwest swell of 2-3 meters and a combined sea swell of 2.5-4.5 meters. The largest waves will reach the northern and western coasts of Lanzarote, but also those of other islands such as La Palma, El Hierro and Fuerteventura.

Regarding the wind, it will blow in the northeast with force 5 to 7 (between 30-61 kilometers per hour), especially intense on the southeast and northwest coasts of the islands, and at sea.

For Sunday, February 18, there will be a predominance of strong seas with large areas of rough seas.
