The intense fog that covered the runway of the César Manrique airport in Lanzarote forced 14 flights to be diverted to the aerodromes of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Tenerife Sur, according to Aena. A thermal inversion caused a dense layer of fog at very low altitudes, less than 200 meters high, which considerably reduced visibility at the Lanzarote airport to just 50 meters, causing the arrival and departure operations of flights to be affected at least between 5:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.
Specifically, eight national and international flights had to be diverted to Gran Canaria, five to the island of Fuerteventura and, finally, one plane was diverted to Tenerife South. "Flights will be rescheduled throughout the day," Aena said.
According to reports from the Emergency Consortium, "with the conditions for this Monday there will be no problems to operate. There is a more intense wind and the base of the investment is now larger and not like this Sunday that was on the surface and did not allow visibility."
