Puerto del Carmen dressed this Monday in the colors white and red, symbols of the flag of England, to celebrate St. George's Day. The British community, the second largest in Tías, celebrated the day of the English patron saint there with musical performances at a party that lasted for more than 11 hours.

The gardens of the Tropical Shopping Center in La Tiñosa, Puerto del Carmen, hosted this celebration of brotherhood between the locals and the English community. Many residents and many tourists who are enjoying their holidays in Lanzarote these days participated in the musical performances and the festive atmosphere for St. George's Day. The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, and the Councilor for Tourism, Nerea Santana, were also present at the celebration.

72 different nationalities reside in the municipality of Tías and nearly half of the resident population was born outside of Spain, mainly in countries of the European Union. Throughout the year, the Tías City Council "offers its collaboration and support to the celebration of these festivals as an element of union and cohesion towards one of the main countries that send tourism to Lanzarote", they point out from the Consistory. In addition, nearly 8,000 British people reside on the island of Lanzarote, most of whom have Tías as their municipality of residence.
