The Cabildo of Lanzarote will celebrate Canary Islands Day with an institutional event that will take place at the Teatro Cine Atlántida in Arrecife this Thursday, May 29, at 9:00 p.m. The event, which is sponsored by Canarias Cultura en Red, will consist of three parts and will end with a performance by the folk group EnCantadoras.

The Cabildo indicates in a press release that the first part of the celebration will consist of the projection of an audiovisual montage with the Hymn of the Canary Islands. Subsequently, the president of the Cabildo, Manuela Armas, will give the institutional speech to conclude the event with the traditional concert, which this year is given by EnCantadoras, a group of 18 women who reinterpret Canarian folklore in their own way, seasoned with influences received from the other side of the Atlantic, mainly from countries such as Venezuela.

"As usual, admission to the event is free, but as seating is limited, it will be necessary to pick up an invitation in advance," the note states. Invitations can be picked up at the Centro Insular de Cultura El Almacén. Only two invitations will be distributed per person. The event is jointly organized by the areas of Presidency and Education and Culture. The Councilor for Education and Culture of the Cabildo, Rubén Placeres, will be precisely one of the many authorities who will attend the event.

EnCantadoras is a group made up of 18 Canarian women, from different islands, who have decided to approach the folklore of the islands from a perspective that mixes renovation with tradition. Thus, in their repertoire they use folías and malagueñas, or even an amalgamation of the well-known "Aires de Lima", recovering instruments such as the accordion or the timple. And all this under the perspective of the fusion of the Canarian heritage with American music, but from countries not often frequented by the popular music of the islands, such as Venezuela or Mexico.
