The elderly of Arrecife enjoyed, on Saturday, December 17, the "traditional Christmas lunch" organized by the capital's City Council.

“It is very graphically to have been able to resume this act of fraternization after a very complicated stage for everyone, but especially hard for them. This lunch has been for many, a moment for reunion, to chat and, of course, to dance and have a great time together. Without a doubt, it has been a success,” says the mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez.

The day started at 12:15 p.m. at the Insular Library, the place chosen as a meeting point, and from where the buses that transferred them to the Monument departed.

“It has been a fun and endearing encounter in which we wanted the elderly to feel like protagonists, because after all, they are a sector of society that always requires our recognition,” said the councilor of the Elderly area of Social Services, María Jesús Tovar.

“Our elders deserve everything and more after a lifetime of effort and work, and this lunch is a way to remember and value everything they have given us,” adds the councilor.

After the meal, the artist Álvaro Gamboa delighted the public with a musical performance, which brought the audience to their feet and did not hesitate to dance each and every one of his songs. The more than 400 seniors received a small gift with which the Arrecife City Council wanted to congratulate them on the holidays.

“When we came to the government, Arrecife did not celebrate the Christmas lunch for the elderly, and with the experience of recent years we have managed to make it a traditional event in the capital, interrupted only by the pandemic,” concludes the councilor.
