The Deputy of the Common will open an investigation ex officio to learn firsthand about the situation of the two families from Arrecife who reported spending weeks requesting help from institutions without having received a response. According to what has been transferred from the Deputy of the Common, a solution will be sought for those affected and a report will be requested from the Arrecife City Council.
"We have been asking for help for a month," said Tamara Maya last Friday, a woman who lives with her husband and her four children aged 10, 15, 19 and 23 and who claimed to have turned to both the City Council and the Red Cross and Cáritas in search of help as they have no income.
"Every day I'm calling and all they tell me is that they will call us," said this woman, who recounted how her economic situation had led them to occupy a home, after they arrived in Lanzarote from Toledo last January in search of work.
"I'm desperate," said Fausía Abdeselam, a 57-year-old woman without a job and on medical leave, who in her case claimed to only have an income of 269 euros, which is not enough to pay the rent.
This resident stated that she had called the Arrecife City Council more than 20 days ago to request emergency social assistance and that she had not received a response either. In addition, she also indicated that she had gone to the Cabildo to request advice on processing rental assistance, but that it was not yet being granted.
