Not a single municipality in Lanzarote has been spared from the new peak of Covid cases reported this Wednesday on the island, which has recorded its worst data since last February 12, adding 45 positives in one day.
Most of these new infections are concentrated in Arrecife, with 29 cases in a single day, but the rest have been distributed among the other six municipalities without exception, returning the island to "high risk" in the cumulative incidence at 7 days.
The most affected have been San Bartolomé and Yaiza, with 4 new cases each, followed by Tías with 3, Haría with 2, and Teguise and Tinajo with one each. In the case of Tinajo, it had not registered any throughout the week, as has been happening during a good part of the pandemic, but this Wednesday it broke its trend. As for Haría, which has been the other municipality least affected by the health crisis, it has already been adding almost one positive daily for two weeks and this Wednesday it has added another two.
Thus, Haría continues at high risk in the cumulative incidence both at 7 days and at 14 days, as does Yaiza. For its part, Arrecife has re-entered the maximum level of risk (very high risk), just two days after having abandoned it; while San Bartolomé and Tías are at medium risk and Teguise and Tinajo at low risk.
Several open outbreaks
The rebound in cases this Wednesday comes after several days in which a downward trend in the number of positives seemed to be confirmed. The island had managed to drop from the more than 20 and up to 30 daily cases that had been registered since the beginning of May, but there was an increase on Tuesday and it has skyrocketed this day, leaving the worst data in more than three months.
In addition, in previous weeks the increase in positives was directly related to a single outbreak, that of the Arrecife gym, but now there are several open outbreaks. In fact, Health notified this day six new outbreaks detected on the island, and the fear now is to know what the scope of each one will be.
For the moment, health sources have indicated to La Voz that of the 45 cases notified this Wednesday, eight correspond to new cases detected in ramifications of the gym outbreak -which has already reached 167 infections-, but most are distributed in other outbreaks detected. Now, the next few days will be key to determine its evolution, when the tracking of the contacts of each positive is carried out.
Incidence in elderly
Meanwhile, in Arrecife, infections in people over 65 years of age have also skyrocketed, and the capital is at "high risk" in this indicator. On the contrary, the situation has been controlled in Haría, Tías and Yaiza. that last week came to be at high and very high risk due to cases in this age group, but in the last 7 days they have not added any positive in the elderly.
For their part, Teguise, Tinajo and San Bartolomé continue for another week without registering cases in this age group.
