The Arrecife City Council wanted to congratulate all the volunteers on the International Civil Protection Day, which is celebrated every March 1. The date commemorates the entry into activity of this association, which aims to develop structures in order to reduce and prevent disasters in the civilian population.

The councilor responsible for Civil Protection of Arrecife, Manuel Hernández Noda, "thanks the work of the almost fifty volunteers that the capital of Lanzarote has, in which they are dedicated to helping and working for citizens without profit." The councilor highlighted the "unconditional work, especially in main events such as this Carnival, where their presence has been very valuable."

In total there are 47 volunteers that Civil Protection of Arrecife has, with 16 having joined in the last quarter of 2016, most of them young people between 16 and 25 years old (minors must have consent from parents or guardians).

The group has several vehicles equipped with the necessary tools for extinguishing fires, land intervention and sanitary logistical support. Last November, a maritime boat ceded by the Emergency Consortium was incorporated into the fleet.

"We must recognize their attitude and their willingness to help make the citizens of Arrecife safer in the events we hold every year," says the councilor, who wanted to praise the work done by the volunteers.
