The Arts, Culture and Tourism Centers and the Technological and Tourist Innovation Center of Lanzarote (CITTLAN), attached to the "Lanzarote Smart Island" project, join forces to promote creativity and programming among the youngest by joining, for the second consecutive year, the initiative 'The Hour of Code'.

This global movement, promoted by the non-profit association CODE.ORG, promotes showing the fun, beauty and educational potential of programming and robotics. This informative initiative has the support of more than 100 partners, including Google, MSN, Yahoo, Disney or Apple. The Hour of Code is an introduction to computer science designed to demonstrate that all people have the ability to learn to program. Simultaneously, it facilitates conceptualization, problem solving and logical thinking through the interaction of the youngest with their computer equipment.

The program

The event has the same program as last year, so it will be held in [espacio48] over three preparatory sessions, each one aimed at a specific course, and a final challenge that will bring together all the participants of the previous sessions.

The first session will take place on Wednesday, December 11, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and offers 12 places to 4th grade students who will learn and have fun creating a game about the characters of the Star Wars saga. During this session, participants will acquire basic computer concepts with drag and drop programming, repetition loops, conditionals and basic algorithms, among others.

The second day will be held on Thursday, December 12, at the same time and in the same setting. On this occasion, 12 5th grade students will create their own game about the movie Frozen through a self-directed tutorial with video sessions.

The third session will be on Friday, December 13. That day, twelve students will enter the peculiar world of Flappy Bird to create an adventure in that universe. The final challenge will be on Saturday, December 14, this time from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and will bring together the participants of the previous sessions to face a joint test associated with the sustainability of the planet. To do this, students will be divided into mixed teams made up of students of all ages with the aim of being able to freely create their "Ecoheroes" game. Finally, the winning proposal will be selected based on creativity and programming quality.

The winning team will receive a gift, as well as the possibility of presenting their game at one of the networking meetings organized by the Centers.
